…We have decided that tumblr is a bit lame, because it doesn’t like letting people comment. Thus, we have (for a trial period) moved Resto Rue Chopin blog to Posterous, and we’ll take stock after a week or so to see if the move will be permenant (so far it looks good). So from now, until you hear from us again, we won’t be updating this blog. For all new content, please visit us on Posterous!
Check us out (new posts today and tomorrow!) at http://restoruechopin.posterous.com, and now you can comment too (providing you log in with facebook or create and account).
Tonight Laura is going to be making pulled pork sandwiches, using her own recipe for the barbecue pork… loks good so far… watch this space for the final verdict!
Thursday night Mark cooked a verrrrry fancy two-course meal, mostly consisting of leftovers! The first course was a spicy carrot and coriander soup he made the day before. Then he introduced us to the traditional leftover meal that follows the traditional Sunday lunch….Bubble and Squeak! Named for the sound it supposedly makes when it’s cooking, bubble and squeak is basically leftover vegetables and stuffing mashed up together and pan-fried. Mark added curry for extra flava, and it was great! Take note, America…perfect solution for all of those Thanksgiving leftovers! He also reheated leftover pork and beef in leftover gravy and made some extra-cheesy (aka extra-good) mashed potatoes.
That was last night and I’m still full…although the four pints I downed at the Irish pub after dinner could have something to do with that…

Wednesday night Lily went “fin” on us, according to Cyril….which we determined is best translated as “restauranty” in English. She made pork chops with herbs and a delicious cheesy cauliflower gratin. We washed it all down with a white wine from Bourgogne. Fantastic meal from Lily as always!!!

We ate hours ago and I’m only just now emerging from my food coma. Not an uncommon occurence at Resto Rue Chopin, but tonight we were treated to an exceptionally delicious meal.
Mark transported us to his motherland with a traditional British Sunday Lunch. Oh yes, I’m talking about a roast (not to be confused with un rosbif, naturellement). He balanced a sizeable hunk of beef (rump roast, perhaps?) on an artfully engineered bed of onions and cooked that mofo! He also made roasted potatoes and parsnips, steamed carrots, leeks sauteed in butter, stuffing balls (apparently that’s a thing in England), gravy, and canned peaches with CUSTARD for dessert pudding.

I know what you’re thinking, and no, we aren’t accepting applications for additional colocs. :)
Everything was awesome (pronounced ah-weh-so-mais chez nous). The beef was well-done but great, the balls were crunchy yet tender in our mouths, and I think I’m going to name my first child Roasted Parsnip.
Unfortunately our recon mission for the missing clove of roasted garlic was unsuccessful and I made a poor utensil choice at dessert, but it was definitely a successful night at RRC!
Carnitas Carnitas Carnitas Carnitas Carnitas.
Before tonight I didn’t know what carnitas were. After tonight I wanted to die in a carinta-y heaven of carnita-ness. Ahem.
I know I sound like an idiot, but honestly, this was probably one of the best meals I’ve eaten. Laura, drawing on her texan up-bringing once again, made Carnitas (roasted shredded spicy mexican pork in soft tacos, for the uninitiated). Aconmpanying it was mexican rice, and a vegetable mix. The real star of this dish, was the fantastic pork, perfectly spicy and flavoursome, amazing!! The pictures don’t do it justice.
After eating, we ventured out, bellies full, to Jimmy’s Pub and saw Cyril’s friend Anthony playing in his rock and roll band. They deserve a huuuuge plug because they were awesomely fun and extremely talented! I’m not so sure about their choice of name though… Blow Joke @ Myspace
So the silence on this blog had gotten a little deafening.

You may have noticed we hadn’t updated for a while. This was due in part to laziness of the RRC friends, and in part to a mourning period for the departure of a one of the Rue Chopin 5. Chris unfortunately had to head home to IN for this academic year (where he has so far perfected the art of shirt-folding). He is sorely missed (no more couscous and vegetables!), however, he will be vicariously living through the Resto Rue Chopin tumblr and we hope to encourage him to try his had a few of the recipes on here (and lower his weekly consumption of Hot Pockets… gross!).
We also welcome our amazing friend Chrissy as one of our avid followers. She will be attempting to recreate our more successful nights of cooking in her place in Boston, MA, in order to expand her culinary range from Rillettes de Thon, Baguette, Pot of Coffee and Second Pot of Coffee… (just kidding Chrissy, we know you’re hiding the kooking skillz…)

Watch this space, we’re trying to keep the blog more updated, and Laura and Mark’s most recent meals are will be up soon!
